All-round effforts help Delhi beat RR by 13 runs

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have registered their sixth win in the eighth match after beating Rajashtan Royals by 13 runs on Tuesday. Shikhar Dhawan continued his good run of form with the bat. He didn’t let Delhi get effected by the early wicket of Prithvi Shaw. After Shaw departed on the first ball, Rahane too fell in the third over as Delhi were in trouble at 10 for 2 in 3 overs. However, Shikhar Dhawan then joined hands with Shreyas Iyer to form an eye-pleasing partnership for the third wicket.

The duo added 85 runs for the third wicket and played with great intent. Shikhar Dhawan scored 57 runs off just 33 balls, while Shreyas Iyer made 53 off 43 balls. However, once both the players departed, runs dried at the final stage. Wickets started to tumble at regular intervals and Delhi could manage to post 161 runs in 20 overs.

Jofra Archer exhibited another sensational performance with the ball, picking 3 wickets for just 19 runs in his 4 overs.

Rajasthan Royals, in reply, made a solid start to the chase, having scored 37 runs in just 3 overs. However, on the last ball of the third over, Nortje produced a gem of a delivery to send Buttler back to the pavilion. Smith’s horrid run in the tournament continues as he too departed in the next over. At 40 for 2 after four overs, Stokes and Samson led the recovery and added 46 runs for the third wicket.

The duo was playing well before Ben Stokes was holed at long-on in the 11th over of the innings. Stokes amassed 41 runs off 35 balls. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals after that as RR managed 148 in the end, thereby losing the game by 13 runs.

Sanju Samson threw his wicket after playing a decent knock of 25 runs off 18 balls. Robin Uthappa too got out after getting set in the middle. He made 32 runs off 27 balls. In the end, there was no one left for them to finish the chase as they succumbed to their 5th loss in the tournament.
