2022 ICC ODI Team of the year : Shreyas Iyer and Mohammad Siraj are the only 2 Indians on this list

A day after the 2022 ICC T20I team of the year got out, the apex world cricketing body revealed the 2022 ODI team of the year today. Being a part of this prestigious list is an honor for any cricketer as it is a reflection of all the hard work a player puts in throughout the year.

The ICC T20I team of the year was dominated by Indian players in both Male and Female. In the Men’s list, there were 3 Indian players – Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya and in the female’s list – Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh and Renuka Singh made it to the list.

In total 7 players were in the T20I TOTY. However, in the ODI TOTY, only 2 Indians were in the list i.e middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer and Pacer Mohammad Siraj. Below is the complete list of the 2022 ODI Team of the year.

1. Babar Azam – The Pakistani captain had a good year and once again imposed his dominance in the list. Since July 2021, no batsman has been able to dethrone him. He played 9 ODI matches in 2022 and scored 50+ runs more than 8 times and also scored 3 Centuries on the way. In total, Babar Azam scored 679 runs with an outstanding average of 84.87.

2. Travis Head – The Left-handed Australian top order Batter has successfully filled the void left by Aaron Finch. Although he mainly played as an attacking middle-order batter initially but his transformation into an Opener has been splendid. In 9 ODIs, Head amassed 550 runs at an average of 68.75.

3. Shai Hope – The West Indies batter has been one of the most consistent player for the nation. He still has a lot of work to do but 2022 was good for him after initial struggles. Shai Hope scored 709 runs – 3 Hundreds and 2 half-centuries, averaging 35.45.

4. Shreyas Iyer – The 28-year-old Middle-order batter had a great 2022. He has been working hard to fixate a permanent spot in the Indian team and he will be one of the probables for the upcoming ICC Cricket World cup 2023 India. He played 17 matches in 2022, scored 724 runs with an average of 55.62 and amassed a Full-century and 6 half-centuries.

5. Tom Latham – The Kiwi Gloveman is currently leading New Zealand against India. His first 2 matches as the skipper have not been very good but he still finds himself in this list. Latham as a number 5 batter, played 15 matches, scored 558 runs with 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries at an average of 55.80.

6. Sikander Raza – The Zimbabwean captain came into the radar following Zimbabwe’s unexpected win against Raza’s place of birth Pakistan. His performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 earned also him a contract in the IPL with Punjab Kings. The All-rounder was able to get 645 runs with the bat and picked 8 wickets.

7. Mehidy Hasan – In 2022, Mehidy Hasan was one of the most consistent All-rounders. He helped Bangladesh in crucial situations – helping the team with the bat as well as the ball. In 15 ODIs, he scored 330 runs and took 24 wickets.

8. Alzarri Joseph – The West Indies speedster played 17 matches and took 27 wickets in 2022.

9. Mohammad Siraj – The Hyderabad bowler is experiencing a great time with the ball for the Men in Blue. In sometime he will become a starter for team India and will be a huge asset during the World cup. This year, Siraj played 15 matches, took 24 wickets with a brilliant economy rate of 4.62.

10. Trent Boult – Although he played only 6 matches in 2022, Trent Boult took 18 wickets with an even better economy rate of 3.

11. Adam Zampa – The Australian leggie had a terrific 2022 as he took 30 wickets in just 12 matches.
