Virat Kohli Achieves Incredible Feat: The King of Records
India is a land of sports – with cricket at the helm of it all. It has produced for the world an array of credible players but probably none as ambitious as the Delhi lad Virat Kohli. With his eyes set on the target, Kohli has employed the technical astuteness of his idol Sachin Tendulkar combined with his unbelievable fitness which is on par with the top athletes of the world.
With time, Kohli became the most consistent all-format athlete of the modern era, making jaw-dropping chases look like a piece of cake and finding the safest possible ways to amass runs.
Charismatic, determined and fiercely talented, Kohli is arguably one of the finest batters that India has produced till date. Due to the playing style and statistical records, he has drawn comparisons with the stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting.

With an inherent ability to smash balls to any part of the ground and play risky shots with ease, Kohli has carved a niche of his own in Indian cricket. The king of chases, as he is fondly called, Virat is a storm of aggression and talent which is deeply engrained across all formats.
His leadership led India to a long stay at No. 1 in Test rankings and a first-ever series win in Australia. Kohli was touted as a precocious talent with a cover drive to kill for.
Over the years, the run machine Kohli has established an image of himself whom the opposition is in admiration of, a cricketer whose presence would raise the intensity of the match. Without any second thoughts, he is openly credited for changing the fitness scenario in Indian cricket and raising the level consistently.
In this feature, let us look at three major tournaments where Virat’s dominance is truly unmatched.
1) ICC ODI World Cups – Possibly his favorite format to play for, Kohli is a poetry in motion every time he plays an ODI match against an opponent. This is proven with the records he has built in his career so far. Since 2011, his first ICC ODI World Cup, Kohli has scored 1795 runs at a strike rate of 88.20 in 37 matches so far.
He is the second highest run getter, only behind his idol Tendulkar, who has scored 2278 runs in his combined world cup appearances from 1992 to 2011. It is only a matter of time when Kohli minimizes the difference of 483 runs to take the top position and overtake Sachin Tendulkar.
2) ICC T20 World Cups – T20 as a format has become hugely popular amongst cricket spectators, because of the thrill and excitement is brings with it. Several nations have adopted it as part of the league level tournaments to increase the sport’s affinity.

In this format Kohli is the leading run getter, with 1292 runs scored so far and counting. In his 35 matches appearances for ICC T20 world cups from 2012 onwards until now, he has hit 111 fours and 35 sixes at a strike rate of 128.81. His 319 runs in 2014 World Cup in Bangladesh at an average of 106.33, is the highest run tally for any batsman at a single edition.
The second position behind Kohli is occupied by the current skipper of Indian team, Rohit Sharma. He is not too far behind, with 1220 runs in 47 world cup matches played since 2007.
3) ICC Champions Trophy Events – Originally called as the ICC Knockout Event, Kohli’s sheer brilliance is evident in this tournament format too. This prestigious ODI format has Kohli’s authority sealed on it too. He has scored a whopping 746 runs from his first appearance in 2009 till date.
Out of the 17 matches played at a strike rate of 89.44, the run machine is the second highest run scorer only behind the legendary Chris Gayle. In his 17 matches tied with Kohli, the now-retired Gayle has made 791 runs from 2002 to 2013, only 45 runs ahead of King Kohli.
My Perspective:
With such credible numerical records and making his hard work speak for himself, Virat Kohli certainly is an inspiration and once in a lifetime batsman for generations to see. His supreme focus on improving his craft and staying fit for as long as he can is a testament to the passion he has for the sport.

Crowned as the G.O.A.T by experts and enthusiasts unanimously, Virat Kohli has abundant cricket left in him yet and as a fan we only wish to the legend break more records with each outing of his.
Whether we get to see him play in the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup or not is a question only the man himself can answer, but with the current records and fitness level attributed to his name, it does certainly does seem doable and probable. His drive to finish the format on a winning note although may make us see Virat pulling the strings on the ODI format.
Let us see what’s in store for the ardent Kohli fans ahead.
