Victoria Azarenka beats Serena Williams advances in the US Open final

Former World number 1, Victoria Azarenka advanced in US Open final after beating Serena Williams in the semifinal clash. She defeated Williams by 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 and will now face ace Japanese star player Naomi Osaka in the final.

She defeated Williams for the first time in the major tournament as the semifinal clash between two ace players was played for one hour and 55 minutes in Arthur Ashe stadium.

After the win Azarenka said “It my honour that I have played against Williams in the semi-final clash”.

I am so grateful to be able to play such a champion in the semifinals. On the road to the final, you have to beat the best players, and definitely today was that day, ” US Open’s official website quoted Azarenka as saying.

I dug myself in a big hole- she dug me in the big hole in the first set. I had to climb my way out of there, one by one. I am very happy that I was able to turn it around ” she added.

Her opponent Osaka reached in the final by beating Jennifer Brady by 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.

Azarenka has won 21 WTA singles titles, eight doubles WTA titles and three mixed-doubles titles. She is the only Belarusian player who won the Australian Open twice in his carrier.

She has also clinched a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Her Tennis Idol is Steffi Graf which she revealed in the recent interview.
