Aston Villa defeated 13th placed Crystal Palace in the Premier League fixture by 2-0 in their own backyard on Friday, as they downed the side after almost a year.

Dean Smith’s men were fierce at the Villa Park especially their Egpytian striker Trézéguet as he scored twice and helped his side break the 10-match winless streak across all the competitions.

Aston Villa boss Smith reacted on his side’s victory after such a long time and also cited how crucial it is to continue with the same form to stay upright in the league.

“We have found it hard this season and there is no getting away from that. I know these players can play under pressure. We have been playing tournament football since we came back.” Smith after his side’s first victory in 11 league games.

“We haven’t got the points we need but we’re still in the tournament,” he concluded.

The match was in a deadlock with no goal getting scored from either side but minutes before the half time, Egypt star Trezeguet made things feasible for the side by getting a free-kick after a lengthy VAR review of a kick, that earned the home team a penalty. Aston Villa got their first goal of the match which was later followed by another goal in the 59th minutes of Trézéguet’s kick, doubling the lead for his side.

With this win, Aston Villa now has 8 wins and 30 points and they will now face Everton in their next match on Thursday. While, Palace is now on a five-match losing streak, with the last defeat coming off against Chelsea by 3-2 in a fighting game. They will face the fifth seed Manchester United in their next Premier League outing at the Selhurst Park on Friday.
