The T20 World Cups over the years have witnessed some huge totals. While most of us might be aware of the highest ever total made in a T20 World Cup game, but could you guess the next four in the list?

On that note, here’s a look at top 5 highest totals in T20 World Cup:

#1. Sri Lanka- 260/6

The seventh match of the inaugural T20 World Cup edition witnessed Sri Lanka posting a daunting 260-run total in their 20 overs against Kenya.  Legendary batsman Sanath Jayasuriya gave Sri Lanka a lighting fast start as Sri Lanka crossed the 100 run-mark in just 10 overs.

The Southpaw struck a brilliant 44-ball 88 runs innings, while skipper Mahela Jayawardene too played an exemplary 27-ball 65 run knock. Getting to 260-mark looked impossible at one stage until Jehan Mubarak came and stole the show with his belligerent hitting in the final overs.

Playing at a strike rate of 353. 84, Mubarak scored an unbeaten knock of 46 runs off 13 balls and help the team post 260 runs in 20 overs. Sri Lanka won that game by a big margin of 172 runs.

#2. England: 230/8

One of the best T20 matches of all-time, England and South Africa produced a final over thriller at Wankhede in the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup. Batting first South Africa posted 229 runs in the first innings and the chase looked almost improbable at that time. However, England cricketer Joe Root had other plans.

Playing at a strike rate of 188.66, Root kept scoring runs at one end even as wickets were falling at other. One of the finest knocks of his career, Root struck 83 runs off just 44 deliveries and helped England chased down the total with one ball remaining in the end.

England’s 230-run total still stands as the second-highest total in the history of the T20 World Cup.

#3. South Africa

In the same thriller mentioned above, South Africa posted 229 runs in the first innings which is the third-highest total in the T20 World Cup.

South Africa’s innings witnessed three half-centuries from the likes of Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, and JP Duminy. The openers in Hashim and De Kock gave South Africa a blistering start, having raced to 96 runs in just 7 overs before de Kock gave his wicket to Moeen Ali in the 8th over.

JP Duminy and David Miller finished the innings on a high with a 60 partnership off just 27 balls.

#4. India 218/4

The 21st match of the 2007 edition of the T20 World Cup will always be remembered for Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes in an over to Stuart Broad, which helped India reach 218 runs in 20 overs. He struck 58 runs off just 16 balls. The foundation was set by the openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag, putting up a 136-run partnership for the opening wicket. England, in reply, scored 200 as India won that game by 18 runs.

#5. South Africa 211/5

The team South Africa also has the fifth-highest total set by a team in the T20 World Cup. In the augural edition of the T20 World Cup, South Africa went all guns blazing to score 211 runs in 20 overs against Scotland.  The latter, in reply, were bundled out for just 81 runs, giving a South Africa an easy 130-run victory.
