Top 5 Disappointing moments of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023

IPL 2023 is at a very interesting stage where only 10 matches are left and we are yet to get the four teams who will play the playoffs. Only Gujarat Titans have booked their spot and seven teams are still in contention for the other three spots.

Chennai Super Kings have the strongest case out of all the teams in contention as they have the best NRR of the lot and have 15 points with one game left to play. CSK has played very good cricket this season and has once again shown the value of experience.

There are still some players who have not performed as expected. This article talks about top-5 such players in detail.

  1. Ben Stokes (All-rounder)

Stokes was bought for a whopping INR 17.25 crores in the auction by the CSK management but has not justified his worth at all. He has played only 2 matches this season and has scored just 15 runs in those matches and has not taken any wickets bowling with an economy of 18 runs per over. He has been the biggest disappointment for CSK this season.

  1. Ambati Rayudu (Batter)

Rayudu is the player who has failed miserably this season. CSK management trusted him a lot this season to be the middle-order savior for them but Rayudu has disappointed a lot. He has scored only 122 runs in 12 matches this season at a very embarrassing average of 15.25 runs.

  1. Moeen Ali (All-rounder)

Another overseas all-rounder who has been a big disappointment this season for CSK is Moeen Ali. Ali was expected to be the floater who can play attacking cricket at any stage of the game but he hasn’t fulfilled the role he was given. He has scored just 115 runs in 11 innings and taken just 9 wickets in 12 innings.

  1. Deepak Chahar (Bowler)

Chahar has once again disappointed a lot due to his injury. It is really not a good sign for a fast bowler to get injured so frequently. He has taken just 7 wickets in 7 games and clearly, he is much more capable than that.

  1. Maheesh Theekshana (Bowler)

Maheesh Theekshana has only 7 wickets in 10 games. He has not bowled the correct lines and lengths and perished because if you have a home ground like Chepauk which is a goldmine for spinners, only 7 wickets to your name is really not justified. It is highly unlikely that he will be retained next year by the CSK management.
