Saina, Sai to lead Indian challenge in Thomas and Uber Cup finals

Star Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and B Sai Praneeth will lead women’s and men’s teams in the Thomas and Uber Cup finals which will be scheduled in Denmark From October 9th -17th 2021.

Badminton Association of India recently announced a 12-member Indian team who will be taking part in the Sudirman Cup which will be taking place between September 26th to October 3rd in Finland.

Along with Saina, three other women players who will accompany her will be Malvika Bansod, Aditi Bhat, and Tasnim Mir along with three doubles pairs which include Tanisha Crasto and Rutuparna Panda who achieved top spot in the trails.

Talking about Men’s team Praneeth and Former World number 1 Kidambi Srikanth along with two other players Kiran George and Sameer Verma  will be part of the singles competition.

The country top double’s player Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy has been selected to represent India in the upcoming marquee event.

All the players who will be competing in Uber Cup, Thomas Cup, and Sudirman Cup were selected on the basis of recently concluded trails apart from selecting players based on their rankings.

The two Olympic medalist PV Sindhu is not selected in the squad as she had requested Association to not to consider her for selection post-Olympics recovery.

In Thomas Cup, India has been placed in Group C along with China, Netherlands and Tahiti while in Uber Cup, the country has been placed in Group B along with Thailand, Spain and Scotland.

Indian badminton is on rise not just in the Olympics but also in the Paralympics as the sport which was introduced for the first time in recently concluded Paralympics 2020 where they have bagged gold as well as silver medal respectively.

Para-Badminton player which includes the likes of  Suhas L Yathiraj, Manoj Sarkar, Pramod Bhagat, and Krishna Nagar made the entire India proud by winning four medals in Paralympics 2020 which will inspire the next budding para-athlete to take up the sport of Badminton to excel in the International circuit.
