Real Madrid defeat Barcelona in the crucial match and moves to the top of the summit

In what was considered as the first El Clasico of the new decade, Real Madrid defeated the Catalan giants to top the table in Serie A. Zinedine Zidane managed side defeated Barcelona by a scoreline of 2-0 after they were battered by Manchester City in the midweek.

The teenager Vinicius Jr opened the scoring and troubled the scorers in the 71st minute in a game which was considered as a cagey affair. The ball confused Barcelona’s shot-stopper as it deflected of Gerrard Pique. Also, Mariano added the miseries to Barcelona when he scored in the final moments of the game.

Barcelona looked like taking the lead in the first period of the game. However, they couldn’t break the deadlock. The efforts of Lionel Messi and Arthur Melo was seen stopped by Thibaut Courtois in the first half. For the crucial clash, Zidane restored Toni Kroos and Marcelo into the line-up at the expense of Luka Modric and Ferland Mendy at the left-back position. On the other hand, Barcelona’s manager Quique Setien fielded a midfield heavy side which indicated the likeness to possession over the pace in the attack. First half didn’t have much of things and both the sides saw lack of quality.

In the second half, Real Madrid started the game with much more intensity and looked threatening. Midfielder Isco took a shot towards the glory but Marc Andre ter Stegen pulled off a fantastic save to deny Real Madrid any opening. But after this, fans knew that goal was somewhere near. Also, Gerard Pique cleared the header of Isco to keep the scoreline undisturbed.

With higher work rate and his electric pace, Vinicius Jr looked threatening but there was no final output by the player. However, the player clinically finished Toni Kroos’ weighted pass and put the Spanish capital-based outfit into the driving seat after 71 minutes. Further, Mariano, who made his first appearance of the season, added the final nail in the coffin of Blaugrana blues to hand Real Madrid a victory in El Clasico at Santiago Bernabeu since 2014.

The victory for Los Blancos meant that they go on top of the table with 56 points in their kitty from 26 games. On the other hand, Barcelona are just a point behind Real Madrid in the league table with 55 points. However, the victory has boosted Zinedine Zidane and his side who were enduring difficult times of the late.
