In the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics held in Nanjing, the player won the silver medal for the country in the 77 kg category. It was the first ever medal for India in the Youth Olympics in the weightlifting category.

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow, Scotland, Ragala Venkat Rahul won a gold medal in the 85 kg weight category.

The Guntur-born dedicates his victory to his parents. “My father is overwhelmed. My mother passed away two years back and as a token of her blessings, I have made her mettelu (anklets) as a locket that I always wear. I also have a tattoo of my parents’ photo on my chest,” he says, adding,
“I used to discuss winning medals with my father. Being a kabbadi champion, he knows the value of sports and he constantly encouraged me and my younger brother Venkat (a national weightlifter), who is currently at the Patiala weightlifting camp.”
Indian weightlifter will be looking to win his second consecutive medal at Commonwealth Games. As Indian fans have high hope for a veteran weightlifter to bring more success to the weightlifting team.
