Petr Cech is a former Cezh Footballer who plays the role of technical and performance advisor for the Premier League club Chelsea and who also plays semi-professional ice hockey as a goaltender for Guildford Phoenix
EARLY LIFE
Petr was born on 20 May 1982 in Pilsen, Czech to mother Libuse Cechova and Vaclav Cech. Both his parents are retired athletes.
Petr was born as a triplet with his sister Sarka and Brother Michael. Unfortunately, his brother Michael died due to an infection just after two years he was born.
Petr started as a movie star, he played the role of Honza in the Czech TV series The Territory of White Deer but switched to Football to follow his parent’s athletic profession.
PERSONAL LIFE
Petr married his long-time girlfriend Martina Cechova in 2003. The couple is blessed with two children named Adela and Damian.
Martina comes from a rich sporting family, her father represented Czechoslovakia in judo. She is inti modern gymnastics and aerobics.
CLUB CAREER
Petr started playing Football when he was just seven years old. Starting with the club Skoda Plzen he played as a striker, but at the age of 10, he broke his leg while playing for the youth team of FC Viktoria Plzen.
Petr upon recovering was often was used as a goalkeeper temporarily just because of his height. Later he fell in love with the position and decided to stuck with it.
In July 2002 he moved to Rennes and was awarded man of the match during his first season but the club as ended as being in the bottom of the league table by the end.
In January 2004 he moved Chelsea for 7 million euros for a five-year contract. During his career, he sustained a head injury in the match against Reading at the Madejski Stadium on 14th October 2006 when he collided with the midfielder Stephen Hunt’s right knee.
Petr underwent surgery for the depressed skull fracture. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho blamed Hunt for Petr’s injury saying the challenge was a disgrace.
Petr gradually recovered from the injury but had to play wearing a helmet, during the rest of his life.
On 29th June 2015, he signed a four-year contract with the Gunners for 10 million euros. Plying from the Arsenal side he contributed his outstanding gameplay in FA Cup, FA Community Shield, EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER
Petr represented playing for his country in November 1997 with the Under-15 team, and over the period with different age group till he made his senior debut for the national team in February 2002.
In 2004 UEFA Euro he was named in all-star team as the Best Goalkeeper. In 2006 World Cup his team finishes third, In 2008 Euro he captained the Czech Republic team against Germany.
After playing his national team for 19 years he announced his retirement from international Football.
CONTROVERSY
In 2017 Petr Cech turned red and furious after Mike dean was awarded a controversial penalty against Arsenal with just minutes ago as the opponent West Bromwich Albion secured a 1-1 draw.
