Riding on Suryakumar Yadav’s spectacular 71-run knock, Mumbai Indians have beaten Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets and, thereby, sealed the spot for the first finalist of the 12th edition of Indian Premier League.

Once again it’s the top-order batting which has let Chennai down on a wicket which perhaps was not an easy surface to bat on. Shane Watson’s once again didn’t intend to show the need to spend too much time at the crease even as In-form Du Plessis too didn’t show much resistance as well, as CSK were in all sort of trouble inside 6 overs, having lost three wickets for just 32 runs.

Mumbai Indians put on a show with Rahul Chahar, Krunal Pandya, and Jayant Yadav combined to pick 4 wickets in 11 overs.

Murli Vijay did play some shots along with Rayudu, however, failed to up the ante as the former eventually fell in the 13th over after playing 26-ball 26 runs innings on Tuesday.

MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu though took them to a fighting total, collecting as many as 65 runs between them. While Dhoni scored 37 runs in 29 deliveries, Rayudu too played a good 37-ball 47 run knock to take the total to 131 in 20 overs.

Perhaps, skipper MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu both failed to give the team much-needed flourish needed in the end as they fell short of 20-25 runs on a pitch which was offering a lot of spin.

Given Dhoni’s 300 plus strike rate in the final over, Jasprit Bumrah didn’t let the former to notch even a single boundary as CSK were restricted to 131 in the end.

CSK, however, did make Mumbai’s dugout tensed in power play overs in the second innings, having sent both Rohit and De Kock early in the innings.

Suryakumar Yadav

However, Indian batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan’s partnership took the game away from the hosts, who combined to put up an 80-run partnership between them.

The duo made sure Mumbai won’t suffer any collapse, as the Men In Blue chased down the total with ease in just 18.3 overs at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten at 71 runs while Ishant Kishan also played a good hand of 28 runs off 31 deliveries.
