During 1989 the semi-final clash against Nottingham Forrest 94 fans died due to crowd crush and this incident remains the worst disaster in the history of the English football. Then started downfall, the team was unable to maintain the Midas touch during the 1970s and 1980s. Then the team fared average i9n 1990s and 2000s still struggling to find the momentum that took them to reach several heights between 1870s and 1980s.
