Lionel Messi Wins Golden Shoe Award:- Lionel Messi won the European Golden Shoe Award for the record-breaking fifth time for being the leading goal scorer last season. The striker scored 34 goals in 68 games he played for Barcelona, after defeating big wigs like Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane.
Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu and fellow players like Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto were also present at the ceremony to support their fellow mate.
Lionel Messi Wins Golden Shoe Award:- This is the fifth time for Messi to win the prestigious Golden Shoe Award and consecutively for the last two years. Messi has won the Golden Shoe Award in the year in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2017 and now 2018.
After being presented the award in Barcelona, he said “The truth is I had no idea this would happen when I started. I dreamt of playing professional football and enjoying success, I love the game, but I never imagined I would have so much.
“I enjoy the work, the effort, I’m at the best team in the world and play with the best team-mates in the world, so everything is easier.”
Messi also responded on the Monday’s Champion’s League draw between Barcelona and Lyon, he said “Lyon will be a complicated opponent.
Even if they are not known as one of the strongest teams, they are dangerous as they showed against Manchester City, one of the best teams in the world.
“It will be difficult to go through, but the opportunity is there for us. We have several Frenchmen in the team like Samuel Umtiti and Malcolm, who played in France, so perhaps they can help as well.”
