Jai Bhagwan who was born on May 11, 1985, won bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and two medals at the Asian Championships. He also competed for India in the lightweight (60 kg) division of boxing at the 2012 London Olympics. He is a well-known boxer from India who has won both a Commonwealth medal and the Arjuna Award. Most people become discouraged after missing two Olympics, but this fighter was not one of them. Jai Bhagwan miraculously secured his ticket to London in 2012 despite having missed the Athens Games in 2004 and the Beijing Games in 2008.

EARLY LIFE

The 13 years old Jai was attracted to the tracksuits that gradually made him choose the boxing ring. The boy from Hisar was inspired by his landlord’s son, Pritam Thakur. Pritam was a boxer in a central force. The young Jai Bhagwan copied him. 

Jai decided to pursue his career in boxing in order to own free tracksuits and also a government job to improve the financial status of his family. 

The boxer was always a healthy child as his mother assured that Jai got a balanced as well as a special diet. 

As an aspiring boxer, Jai started learning the basics of boxing at the Mahabir Stadium, Hisar. Since then, the boxer has never looked back.

PERSONAL LIFE

Jai Bhagwan was born on 11th May 1985 in Hisar district in Haryana, India. He was born to Rajpal Singh and Birmati Singh. 

As he was born after his two sisters, Jai’s mother always doted him with a lot of blessings and prayers.

The boxer belonged to a lower-middle-class family. His father worked as a junior rung employee in the PWD department in Haryana.

Jai’s father struggled a lot to fulfill his children’s requirements due to scarce of finance.

Considering his Jai’s passion for the sport, his family moved to the outskirts of their city so that they could rear buffaloes to provide him his dietary needs. Jai’s mother made sure he received both balanced food and a special diet, thus the boxer was always a healthy child.

But soon, Jai joined the Punjab Police to improve their economical condition. Firstly he worked as a constable & then worked as the ticket examiner in the railways.

Meanwhile, he didn’t give up his dream of boxing. Once he achieved a permanent source of income, he became more determined for the sport.

The 34 years old boxer tied the knot to Dr. Meelu Lamba on 30 November 2012.  

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Jai Bhagwan is famous for achieving two medals at the Asian Championships in the 60 kg lightweight discipline (boxing).

In 2010, he has also earned a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

In 2011, he successfully reached the quarterfinals of the World Amateur Boxing Championships held in Baku. Under the training of the Indian coach named Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu, he got qualified for the 2012 London Games.

The boxer has represented his country at the London Olympics in 2012.

At the Summer Olympics 2012, he lashed Andrique Allisop from Seychelles in the open round. Jai showcased a very dominating performance in the opening round.

Unfortunately, he failed to earn a title at the Olympics. Jai lost to boxer Gani Zhailauov from Kazakhstan at the event. He ended up in the 16th position.

Again, he also made headlines when he was suspended from his police service for allegedly molesting a hotel manager in Sirsa.
