IPL 2023 : Rohit Sharma frustrated with Mumbai Indians’ performance with the Bat despite playing in a Batting pitch!

5-time IPL Champions Mumbai Indians could not put their famous trend of losing their opening match to an end as Rohit Sharma’s side lost their first IPL match of the season for the 10th season in a row. This trend had originally started back in 2013 when MI had won their maiden trophy under Rohit Sharma.

Since then they have gone on to win 5-IPL trophies in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 after losing their opening match. It saw no change this year too as Faf Du Plesis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore took MI by a storm and the former team won the match by 8-wickets and 22 balls to spare.

And to be fair if it wasn’t for Tilak Verma then MI couldn’t even have posted 171 runs on the board. Captain Rohit Sharma stated the same thing himself during the post match presentation and highlighted the youngster’s courage and ability to show up on the occasion.

After winning the toss, Du Plesis backed his team to chase the total but his bowlers could have done better to stop MI’s only performer Tilak Verma. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan’s pairing did not last more than 11 runs as the latter got out for 10 while the former had just opened his account before Akash Deep got rid of him on 1.

Cameron Green and Surya Kumar Yadav also had an ordinary evening as both shared only 20 runs between them and before Tilak Verma took MI were 48/4. “Did not have a great start but was a good effort from Tilak at the end. But the bowlers did not bowl well. We did not play well enough, it was a good pitch. Some of the shots he played today, he showed a lot of courage.” – said Rohit Sharma.

Tilak Verma went on to score 84 off 46 deliveries including Nine 4’s and Four 6’s powered by a strike rate of 182.61. However, with the Ball, Mumbai Indians failed to support his inning as Faf Du Plessis and Virat Kohli took the game far away from their reach thanks to a 148-run stand.

On that Rohit Sharma reflected “For the past six-eight months I am used to playing without Bumrah. We can’t control things which we can’t control. The other guys are also talented. A lot of the guys hadn’t played IPL before. First game of the season, a lot to look forward to.”
