IPL 2023 : Even though Mumbai Indians won, GT and Rashid Khan win hearts!

On match number 57 of the Indian Premier League 2023, Mumbai Indians sealed a 27-run victory against reigning IPL champions Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium. After losing the toss, Mumbai Indians batted first and got off to a cracking start through openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma.

By the 6th over, MI were 61/1 with Rohit Sharma departing for 29 off 18 balls. Then came the man in form, Suryakumar Yadav at number 3. Following 2 small partnerships with Kishan and Nehal Wadhera, the right-handed batter blew away GT’s bowling line-up.

One by one, he took on every bowler and thrashed Gujarat’s match winning bowlers. Mohammad Shami leaked 53 runs in his quota, Mohit Sharma ended up with 43/1 while Noor Ahmed and Alzarri Joseph conceded 38 and 52 runs respectively.

Rashid Khan was GT’s best bowler last night as he ended with figures of 30/4. But even he could not stop Suryakumar Yadav ruthlessness. SKY smacked 103 off 49 with Eleven 4’s and Six 6’s to help MI set up a total of 218. When Gujarat came out to chase, they lost early wickets and were 103/8 at a point.

However, that’s when Rashid Khan came into the scene. It was because of his efforts that Gujarat Titans did not suffer an embarrassing loss. From 103/8, Rashid and Alzarri Joseph took Gujarat Titans to 191/8. The Afghanistan All-rounder smacked 60 runs by just Sixes and ended up with 79 off 32.

Although, GT still could not win the match but they showed a champion mentality by fighting until the last ball. If the defending champions had at least one player other than Rashid Khan to score 50+ runs, the result could have gone in favor of Hardik Pandya’s side.

Suryakumar Yadav was awarded as the man of the match for his 1st ever Full century in IPL history.

Meanwhile in today’s double header IPL action, Lucknow Super Giants will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the afternoon fixture while Delhi Capitals will welcome Punjab Kings for a spicy North-Indian derby at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
