Alzarri Joseph Biography

Antiguan cricketer Alzarri Shaheim Joseph, who was born on November 20, in the year 1996, competes for the West Indies in ODIs (One Day Internationals) and Test matches. In domestic West Indian cricket, Alzarri represents the Leeward Islands and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Cricket Career

Adam Milne was replaced as an all-rounder by Alzarri Shaheim Joseph for the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) season by the Mumbai Indians side. In the year 2016, Joseph won the title of Antigua and Barbuda Sportsman of the Year. During his under-19 career, Shaheim Joseph helped the West Indies National cricket team in winning the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Domestic Career

Joseph, a player for the West Indies under-19s, made his first-class debut for the Leewards during the Regional Four-Day Competition in 2014–15. The year after, Shaheim Joseph opened the bowling alongside Gavin Tonge and collected his first-ever five-wicket haul in a first-class match against Guyana (5/99). In the following match against the Windward Islands, Shaheim Joseph collected another five-wicket haul (7/46).

Joseph was selected for the West Indies team in the month of December of the year 2015 to compete in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, which they ultimately won. Shaheim Joseph finished the tournament with 13 wickets from six games, which placed him third overall and first for his side. His greatest effort, which earned him match-winning honors, was a 4/30 against Zimbabwe.

Alzarri Shaheim Joseph was nominated to the Leeward Islands team in the month of October of the year 2019 in preparation for the 2019–20 Regional Super50 competition.

International Career

Alzarri Shaheim Joseph was included in the West Indies Test team for their matchup with India in July 2016. In the third game of the series on August 9, of the year 2016, Joseph played his first Test. On October 2, of the year 2016, Joseph played in his first One Day International (ODI) for the West Indies against Pakistan.

For the entire 2018–19 cricket season, which covered all forms, Shahim Joseph was given a contract by Cricket West Indies (CWI) in the month of October of the year 2018.

Following the conclusion of the second day’s play of the second Test against England in early 2019, Joseph received accolades for continuing to play despite learning of his mother’s death.

Joseph was selected for the West Indies Test team for their series against England in June 2020. 

On December 5, of the year 2020, Joseph reached his first Test fifty, making 86 runs in the second innings of a crushing defeat to New Zealand. Later, Alzarri Joseph was named to Cricinfo’s 2020 One Day International (ODI) team.

For the series against Bangladesh in the month of June of the year 2022, Joseph was a member of the West Indies T20I (Twenty 20 International) team. Alzarri Joseph was also included in the West Indies T20I team for their series against India the following month. On July 29, of the year 2022, against India, Alzarri Joseph played in his first T20I match for the West Indies.

Later, Alzarri Joseph was included in the ICC’s 2022 One Day International (ODI) team as well as Cricinfo’s best XI of the CPL in the year 2022. Joseph took his first five-wicket haul in T20Is on March 28, of the year 2023, in the third T20I against South Africa, leading his team to a 7-run victory.

T20 career

Adam Milne was replaced by Joseph for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in March 2019. Alzarri Joseph made his IPL debut on April 6, of the year 2019, against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and recorded the greatest bowling figures for a rookie with 6/12, surpassing Andrew Tye’s 5/17 from the previous year. In addition, Alzarri Joseph followed Andrew Tye as the only other player to claim a five-wicket haul on his IPL debut. At Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, his bowling statistics continue to be the best in a T20 match.

Alzarri Shaheim Joseph was chosen to represent the Amsterdam Knights in the first-ever Euro T20 Slam cricket competition in the month of July of the year 2019. But the following month, the competition was abandoned. Alzarri Joseph was released by the owners of Mumbai Indians before the 2020 IPL auction. Alzarri Shaheim Joseph was included in St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots roster for the year 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in the month of July of that year. In the IPL auction in the year 2021, Joseph wasn’t purchased. Alzarri Joseph was purchased by the Gujarat Titans in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) competition in the month of February of the year 2022.
