IPL 2020: ‘There are four things that happened in this game that I have never seen before,’ says David Warner after SRH defeat

2016 IPL winner, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening game of IPL 2020 on Monday. In pursuit of 163, SRH were cruising in the chase till the time Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey were in the middle. However, the fall of Bairstow’s wicket led to sudden collapse as SRH fell short of 10 runs in the end.

SRH problems in the middle order were on display, as 6 wickets fell for just 22 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal brought his team back into the game after picking three crucial wickets of Jonny Bairstow,  Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar.

There’s four things that happened in the game that i have never seen before: David Warner

SRH skipper, David Warner talked about the defeat and stated that there were a few things that happened in the match which he had never seen before.

I can’t remember the last time I was out like that. There’s four things that happened in this game that I have never seen before. A lot of courage for Mitchell to go out there and try. It doesn’t look great for him, can’t put any weight on his leg. Hopefully, it isn’t too bad, it was quite painful for him, so fingers crossed,’ Warner said at the post-match presentation.

We had the run chase in control and we knew that we had to go after their bowlers in the end. Probably the last over of Chahal was the turning point out there. We have to go back to the drawing board; we obviously can’t fix what happened today but we have to go back and work hard before our next game in Abu Dhabi.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad will play their next match against Kolkata Knight Riders on 26th September 2020. Given the way middle order collapsed in their first game, SRH might bring in Kane Williamson in the next game in place of Mitchell Marsh.
