India to host Women’s AFC Asia Cup in 2022

The women’s Asia Cup 2022 will be staged in India as the country is been given the hosting rights for the competition. It will start in December 2022 will end in January 2023. Ahmedabad and Navi Mumbai are the two venues that have been shortlisted to conduct this tournament as it was reported on Goal.com.

As India is the host so they will get an automatic qualification in the tournament and they will compete along with Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei to win the hosting bid for the Women’s Asia Cup.

India will be hosting this tournament second time as they have hosted this tournament before in 1980 in Kozhikode.

India has never clinched gold but they were runners up in (1980 and 1983) and they won the bronze medal in 1981 and their last participation was in 2003.

This tournament will have 12 teams where 3 teams will be divided into a group of four and a minimum of 25 matches with eight teams will qualify for the newly introduced quarter-finals.

The minimum length of the competition will be 17 days however organizers can give preference to relevant playoff matches depending on the AFC slots at FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

However, India does have prior experience of hosting the world-class competition as they have hosted FIFA under 17 world cup for Men’s in 2017 and will host the FIFA world cup for Women’s in 2021.
