ICC WTC Final : How long will BCCI overlook Sarfaraz Khan?

Sarfaraz Khan

Sarafaraz Khan is yet again left off of the BCCI’s list of reserve players for the World Test Championship match against Australia. Many believed Sarfaraz would be picked as one of the standby players after he got overlooked in the 15-person squad.

However, the selectors chose two batsmen and one bowler as back-ups instead, ignoring him. Suryakumar Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad will go to England as backup hitters, and Mukesh Kumar will go as the backup bowler. Ruturaj recently participated in red-ball games for India A, hence it is a major shock that he was chosen over Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sarfaraz.

During a two-match Test series in Bangladesh, Easwaran was able to set off thanks to his fairytale run. In order to maintain himself in the running, he also blasted the century mark in the Irani Cup. Since Suryakumar was a member of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test squad, it was anticipated that his name would be mentioned as an extra player.

He has yet again been chosen over Sarfaraz. In February, Sarfaraz and Suryakumar competed for a berth in the Test team, and the selection committee chose the senior player. Suryakumar beat Sarfaraz once more. In the 2022–23 Ranji Trophy season, Sarfaraz amassed 556 runs at an average of 92.66. Three centuries comprised in his total. Sarfaraz plans to keep up his performance and compete in the coming season.

Given his success in domestic cricket, it was anticipated that Mukesh would be selected as the backup pacer. Although he has previously been a member of T20I and ODI squads, he’s still uncapped.
Ishan Kishan has been added to the roster for the one-off match by the BCCI to take KL Rahul’s position. Ishan, who has no caps, participated in the domestic series against Australia. During the ICC final, KS Bharat is poised to keep the wickets.
From June 7 to June 11, the WTC finals will take place in London’s Kennington, England Oval. In the 2021 World Tennis Championship final, New Zealand defeated India.
