Champions Trophy 2025: Inglis Century Powers Australia to Record-Breaking Win Over England
Josh Inglis played a brilliant inning at Lahore during the ENG vs AUS ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash. His first ever hundred in a One Day International (ODI) helped Australia beat England by five wickets. This win started the Kangaroos Champions Trophy campaign in a fantastic way. The match also set a new record as Australia chased down the highest score ever in a men’s ICC ODI event.
The Gaddafi Stadium saw many records break on Saturday. First, Ben Duckett scored 165 runs. He hit 17 fours and 3 sixes. This is the highest score by a single player in the Champions Trophy history. Duckett’s big score helped England make 351 runs for eight wickets. Then, Josh Inglis scored an unbeaten 120 runs. He hit 8 fours and 6 sixes. Inglis saved Australia from a tough situation.
Steve Smith, the Australian captain, decided to bowl first. He thought the dew would make it hard for the bowlers later. Although, England’s batters hit the ball well early on but Australia’s bowlers did better in the end.

As the evening went on, the dew made the ground wet. England’s bowlers found it difficult to bowl accurately. This allowed Inglis and Alex Carey to build a big partnership. They added 146 runs for the 5th wicket. Inglis played a perfect innings. Carey got lucky when Jofra Archer dropped an easy catch when he was on 49. This mistake changed the game. Carey and Inglis took advantage of the opportunity. Later on, Brydon Carse got Carey out.
After Carey’s dismissal, Inglis continued his great performance. He joined Glenn Maxwell at the crease. Maxwell hit a quick 32 runs off 15 balls. They took Australia to victory. The crowd cheered loudly for Inglis as he finished the game with a six over deep mid-wicket off Mark Wood.
Earlier, Australia’s innings started steadily. Matthew Short scored a fifty. But Australia faced trouble when they lost four wickets for 136 runs. Inglis and Carey played really well when the team needed them most.
The Australian team gave Inglis a standing ovation. They appreciated his amazing effort. England and Ben Duckett felt disappointed. Duckett had dominated the first inning. He became the sixth player to score a hundred in the Champions Trophy 2025. He and Joe Root added 158 runs together. This helped England reach a huge score.
England looked like they would score 400 runs. But they couldn’t get past 360. This affected their chances. It gave Australia a better chance to reach the semifinals.
