Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 : R. Ashwin responds to Ian Healy’s ‘Fair Wicket’ Statement ahead of the series

Ravichandran Ashwin

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin stated that the series needed “this spark” in response to Ian Healy’s contentious remarks over the impending Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Healy had predicted that Australia would prevail if India provides a “decent pitch” with constant spin rather than having the ball “jump crazily and slide down low from day one.” The former Australia wicketkeeper-batter continued by saying that if a “unfair pitch” is supplied, India would perform better than the host team under those circumstances.

On his YouTube channel, Ashwin commented on the same player and said: “Anyway, an Australian broadcaster and former player Ian Healy has offered a few nuggets before the BGT (Border Gavaskar Trophy). He has made a few statements to the effect of “India will make sure the Australians feel uncomfortable in India.” They won’t, in my opinion, give us wickets that resemble those we’ll actually encounter during a game in the slightest bit.

Therefore, he has stated that Australia’s strategy is the only one that is appropriate. The support workers may have spoken their opinions, but Ian Healy’s comment has ignited controversy with this interpretation. Men, it’s the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. We therefore require this spark, am I correct? The Australian camp will undoubtedly continue its banter. Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith both spoke, as was witnessed. Even Matt Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne have made some contentious remarks.

The opening match of the Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia will take place at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on February 9. The visitors are making every effort to be as ready as they can be to meet the task while being wary of the possibility of spin against India. In preparation for the four-match Test series against India, the Australian squad is practising on worn-out fields.
