Embarking on a fresh venture, former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has teamed up with MI Emirates for the forthcoming edition of the International League T20 (ILT20). The veteran right-handed batter, along with a group of seven other players, has become a part of the esteemed franchise’s roster, as confirmed by their official website.

A Return to Familiar Territory

Rayudu’s association with MI Emirates holds special significance, given his integral role with the Mumbai Indians in the past. A four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) title winner, Rayudu contributed significantly to the Mumbai Indians’ success. Notably, the 37-year-old cricketer, who has also represented the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), stands as the franchise’s fourth-highest run-scorer, accumulating 2635 runs in 136 matches, marked by 14 fifties.

New Additions to the Roster

Joining Rayudu in the MI Emirates lineup are a group of talented players. Kusal Perera, Akeal Hosein, and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth are set to become part of the MI family for the first time. Additionally, the franchise will continue its development journey with Corey Anderson, Waqar Salamkheil, Odean Smith, and Nosthush Kenjige.

 

The recently added players will collaborate with a lineup of distinguished individuals, encompassing notable figures such as Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Trent Boult, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Andre Fletcher, Muhammad Waseem, and Zahoor Khan. Jordan Thompson, William Smeed, McKenny Clarke, and Daniel Mousley. This collective unit aims to make a significant impact in the forthcoming 2024 edition of ILT20.

In the inaugural season of ILT20, MI Emirates showcased their prowess by securing a commendable third-place finish. Demonstrating their mettle, the team emerged victorious in five out of ten matches, setting a solid foundation for their future endeavors.

The Final Showdown: Gulf Giants Triumph

The climax of the inaugural season witnessed the Gulf Giants clinching the title by defeating the Desert Vipers. In a riveting final, Wanindu Hasaranga’s crucial 55 in the first innings propelled the Vipers to a total of 146 in 20 overs. Carlos Brathwaite’s noteworthy bowling performance (4-0-19-3) added depth to the Vipers’ effort.

As the countdown begins for the second season of ILT20, slated to commence on January 13, 2024, MI Emirates seeks to build upon their previous performance. With the addition of Ambati Rayudu and a dynamic squad lineup, the team is poised to showcase an even more remarkable display of cricketing excellence in the upcoming tournament.
