Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins announced that he engaged his long time girlfriend Becky Boston on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Cummins proposed by going down on his knee during a romantic picnic on a farm, sharing photos of the moment to Instagram.
The fast bowler had an amazing 2019 as he finished as the leading wicket-taker in the longer format of the game and also named the ICC Test cricketer of the year. He picked up 59 wickets in the longer format of the game at 20.13 and it saw the 26-year-old hold of the likes of Ben Stokes, Mayank Agarwal, Neil Wagner and Stuart Broad for the honour.
Cummins took 14 more wickets than any other bowler in 2019, with Nathan Lyon second on that list with 45 at 33.26. Only New Zealand’s Niel Wagner (43 wickets at 17.81) took more than 40 wickets in 2019 at a cheaper average than Cummins. The fast bowler was also one of five Australians to make the ICC’s Test team of the year along with Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Lyon.
Cummins is well on his way to becoming one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time. After playing 30 matches in the longer format of the game, he has picked up 143 wickets including five five-wicket hauls and at an average of 17.02. On the other hand, he has played 61 ODIs and now only two wickets away from entering the 100-wicket club.
The fiery fast bowler has a decent record in the shortest format of the game as well. He picked up 32 wickets and has an economy of 6.77 after playing 25 T20I matches.
Cummins had a similar start to his new year as he is all set to start a new phase of his career with his girlfriend.
