If you’re a cricket fan, get ready for drama on the pitch. The Legends Cricket Trophy is back, this time with an all new, quicker version of the game.

The buzz builds up as the tournament opener on 8 March 2024 gets ready to be played at the well-appointed Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka, between two giants of India’s cricketing world, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh.

Captain and smash-batter Yuvraj Singh will be looking to lead the New York Superstar Strikers to victory. His team boast players like Dan Christian, Isuru Udana and Jerome Taylor. They can expect strong contributions from seasoned campaigners Ricardo Powell, Chamara Kapugedara, Rahul Sharma and Lahiru Thirimanne.

On the other hand, Harbhajan Singh, captain of the Dubai Giants, is going to give a fight as they can. They boast stars like Shaun Marsh, Richard Levi, Thisara Perera, Fidel Edwards, and Ben Laughlin being among a lot of batting and bowling firepower.

Talking about the opening match, Shavain Sharma, Director of Legends Cricket Trophy, said: “We could not have asked for a more exciting tournament opener in this new format of the Legends Cricket Trophy. Both Harbhajan and Yuvraj are loved across the subcontinent, and they have strong followers in Sri Lanka as well. So, we are expecting a massive turnout for the first game.”

But that is only the start of the excitement. This edition of the Legends Cricket Trophy has an innovation, too: a new 90-ball format. The team will have five bowlers, three of whom will bowl the traditional three overs each, but the teams have the option to name one bowler who will have to bowl an extra over, which will take his tally to the fourth by the 60th ball. Depending on the individual’s performance and the team dynamic, the decision on who should bowl the extra over will be intriguing, to say the least.

In addition, Power Play moments will punctuate high-scoring flurries, and Strategic Time Outs will afford teams opportunities to regroup and hatch a game plan to victory. At the right time, for the right reasons, with the right players, the teams will deliver a show worth staying up for and paying for.

It’s worth mentioning that the Legends Cricket Trophy has made its mark in the world of cricket before. Last year, the tournament had its first season in Ghaziabad, India, where teams competed in the traditional 20-over format. Unfortunately, the final match between the Indore Knights and the Guwahati Avengers was rained out, resulting in both teams being declared joint winners.
