WPL 2023 Delhi Capitals Women storm straight into the Final after 5-wicket win against UP Warriorz!

From the first game, Mumbai controlled the points table, but Delhi was able to stay up and eventually knocked them off the top spot. Another decisive victory for them, and they will now await their final match only a few days later. After winning the toss and bowling first, Delhi earned a 5-wicket win to storm into the WPL Final.

Tonight against UP Warriorz, Delhi required 139 runs to win, which was not a huge total but also not an easy one to reach. But as has been the case for the majority of their campaign, Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning’s combination easily gave them the advantage in the Powerplay. Before Verma and Lanning both went out, the duo had scored 56 runs together.

As a result, Delhi quickly fell behind by 3 runs. When Marizanne Kapp and Alice Capsey combined for 60 critical runs, Delhi was able to get close to the finish line. As a few batsmen fell, Kapp continued to bat and scored the winning runs.

Meg Lanning made the wise choice of bowling first without any doubt. The Delhi bowlers then made a comeback into the match after UP’s openers established a measure of rhythm. Alyssa Healy and Tahlia McGrath, two Australians, gave it their all, but when Healy escaped, McGrath was left on her own. Both Jess Jonassen and Radha Yadav spun exceptionally well, finishing with 2 and 3 wickets, respectively.

Toward the close, McGrath did succeed in turning up the heat and finished with 58* off 32 balls to help UP reach 138 defendable runs. In the end, Delhi was able to win fairly comfortably thanks to their game management after getting off to a strong start with their opening strikes.

Because of her outstanding performance with both bat and ball, Alice Capsey is named Player of the match. Capsey claims that the role she performed in this game was different from the one she played the previous time, and she is very happy that she was able to support the team. Mentions that the key was to form a partnership and maintain composure under duress. Adds
