Alice Capsey Biography: Alice Capsey is an emerging English cricketer who is a right-handed batting all rounder. The 20-year-old player hails from Surrey and is one of the youngsters in the England Women lineup. At a tender age of 18, she has featured for sides like England Women, Oval Invincibles, Melbourne Stars Women, South East Stars and Surrey Women. In March 2023, Alice Capsey will make her debut for the Delhi Capitals Women in the Women’s Premier League.

Early Life & Journey

Alice Capsey was born and brought up in Redhill, Surrey. The player was born on 11th August 2004. She had an interest in the sport in her early childhood and started playing the game when she was just six years old. Alice Capsey was playing at Capel Cricket Club in Dorking.

Considering her breakthrough and the talent she possessed, Alice Capsey was given a chance to make her county debut against Hampshire. With the ball, she shone as she picked three wickets for 65 runs. She also won the London Cup with Surrey in 2020. She scored 17 runs while opening the batting. In the 2021 Women’s Twenty20 Cup, Alice Capsey was Surrey’s leading run-scorer and wicket taker with 134 runs and eight wickets, respectively.

In 2020, Alice Capsey featured for South East Stars in the coveted Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. She featured in all six games and became the leading run-scorer. She scored 141 runs at an average of 28.2 while taking two wickets.

Continuing her fine form, Alice Capsey was drafted by Oval Invincibles in The Hundred. At Lords, she scored 59 runs with 41 balls to receive the Match Hero award. She won The Hundred with Oval Invincibles in 2021 and came third in the MVP rankings.

After getting picked for England Academy as 2019/20 intake, they picked Alice Capsey up for England’s A squad for their tour to Australia in 2021. In the breakthrough series, Alice Capsey scored 44 runs from 31 deliveries.

Following the breakthrough performances, Alice Capsey was handed the national team cap against South Africa in 2022. She also featured in the Commonwealth Games hosted in Birmingham. Alice Capsey was leading run scorer for England in that tournament.

Alice Capsey has played only one season of Women’s Big Bash League. In WBBL 08, she has featured in 14 games. While appearing in 14 games, she has batted 12 times. In 12 games, she has scored 259 runs with a highest score of 80. She has scored the runs at a strike rate of 128.86. The player has averaged 25.60 in the league. With the ball, Alice Capsey has picked nine wickets while conceding 256 runs. She has bowled at an economy rate of 6.98 with a best bowling figure of three wickets for 37 runs.

Considering her fine form and futuristic expectations, Alice Capsey was signed by Delhi Capitals Women after a fierce bidding war between them and the Mumbai Indians. Though the Mumbai Indians Women started the bidding at 30 lakhs, both teams locked horns until Delhi ran out winners of the bid at 75 lakhs.

Alice Capsey made her T20 international debut against South Africa Women at Worcester. She made her debut on July 23, 2022. She picked the wicket on her debut despite bowling just an over while conceding ten runs. Though she did not get to bat in her first game, she has played 13 innings in the T20 format. She has 307 runs to her name, with the highest score of 51 runs at an average of 27.9. Alice Capsey is a great striker of the ball and has scored runs at a strike rate of 134.06.

 

Alice Capsey made her One-Day international debut against India Women at Hove. Batting at No.4 against India in her debut match, Alice Capsey scored 19 runs from 28 deliveries. Though it did not go as per her plan, she has garnered 80 runs in the four One-Day International fixtures at an average of 20. She has scored runs at a strike rate of 94.11.
