Liverpool and Real Madrid are gearing up for the 1st Leg of their Round of 16 clash taking place at Anfield from 1:30 AM (IST) onwards. This match will be a replay of last season’s Finale at the Stade De France where the Los Blancos came out victorious by 1-0.

Both the clubs have shared heated rivalry in the past which dates back to the 2018 UCL final at Cardiff. Then Madrid Center-back Sergio Ramos amassed controversies after committing a harsh challenge on Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah which broke the Egyptians right-hand.

After Salah was subbed off, the Reds lacked momentum and energy to win and their goalkeeper Loris Karius also succumbed to the pressure. As a result, Liverpool lost by 3-1 but they reached the UCL final again in the following season at Wanda Metropolitano and defeated Mauricio Pochetinno’s Spurs by 2-0 to win their 6th European title.

2 years later, both the clubs met once again in the final and this time Vinicius Jr. scored the only goal of the match and agitated Liverpool players’ as well as the fans. It all began after Mohammad Salah tweeted – “We have a score to settle” right after Real Madrid’s shocking Semi-final win against Manchester City.

After the finale ended, Luka Modric mocked Mo Salah by saying – “You will win it next year.”. The Reds’ head coach Jurgen Klopp on the other hand delivered a huge statement which had a lot of confidence and belief. Klopp was recorded saying – “Where’s the final next year? Book the Hotel for Istanbul.”

And turns out, Liverpool will have to beat Real Madrid once again to book the flight to Istanbul.
