2013

The Indian badminton league was started in the year 2013. The season one was held from 14 August 2013 to 31 August 2013. The Hyderabad Hotshots defeated the Awadhe Warriors in the final by 3 matches to one at the Mumbai’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium. In the Round Robin stage, as many as 15 matches were programmed beyond six Indian cities, like. Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. Townships of Delhi, Lucknow, and Pune were the host for 3 matches each while Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad were the host for 2 matches each in the group stage. Their first semi-final was played at Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Indoor Stadium while the next was played at Bangalore’s Kanteerava Indoor Stadium. The final was listed at Mumbai at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium.

2016

In the 2016 Vodafone Premier Badminton League was also identified as the Star Sports Premier Badminton League 2016 for sponsorship purposes and was the second edition of the Vodafone Premier Badminton League. The league was earlier called as the Indian Badminton League. This season has organized between 2 January 2016 and 17 January 2016. The opening match was held in Mumbai and the final match in Delhi. Delhi Dashers (also known as Delhi Acers) were crowned as the champions after defeating the Mumbai Rockets in the final match.

Vodafone Premier Badminton League

The second season was started in the year of October 2014. But, due to the International schedule, the match was rescheduled to January 2015. It was to be shifted to 2016 due to the dispute between Sporty Solutionz and BAI. The second season was renamed from the Indian Badminton League to the Premier Badminton League. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was the brand ambassador of the Premier Badminton league.

2017

In the year 2017, the Premier Badminton League came to be known as the Vodafone Premier Badminton League 2017 for sponsorship purposes and it was the third season of the Premier Badminton League. It was started on 1 January 2017 and ended on 14 January 2017. It comprised of 15 league ties where each tie consisting of 5 matches and the highest scoring four teams progressed to the beat out stages. Sachin Tendulkar had become a co-owner of Bengaluru Topguns before that session and they were renamed as the Bengaluru Blasters.

It was followed by the same arrangement as the origin of the two leagues, and the four teams to continue to the semi-finals were the Awadhe Warriors, Mumbai Rockets, Chennai Smashers and Hyderabad Hunters. Chennai Smashers defeated the Awadhe Warriors 4-1 and the Mumbai Rockets defeated Hyderabad Hunters 3-(-1) to move to the final match. Chennai Smashers won the tournament after defeating the Mumbai Rockets 4-3.

2018-2019.

In the year 2018-2019, The Premier Badminton League was also called as Vodafone PBL for sponsorship purposes because the Vodafone was the title sponsor and was the fifth season of Premier Badminton League. It was executed from 22 December 2018 to 13 January 2019.

Vodafone Premier Badminton League

This season highlighted a new team – Pune 7 Aces – taking the sum to nine competing teams. Also, the Bengaluru Raptors team previously called as the Bengaluru Blasters featured as Bengaluru Raptors.

Bengaluru Raptors defeated Mumbai Rockets by 4 – 3 in the final tie to lift their maiden title and the trophy.
