The wicketkeepers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) play a vital role in winning the matches for their team. They are not just a handy batter, they are the key member when it comes to taking a DRS call. Wicketkeepers are important to bowlers as they take catches and do the stumping. Do you know who are the wicketkeepers with the most dismissals in the IPL? Let’s take a look.
- MS Dhoni (190 Dismissals in 264 Matches)
The legendary wicketkeeper batter and a former captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MS Dhoni has the most dismissals in the history of the IPL. There is a saying for ‘captain cool’ across social media in the Hindi language that says – “Ek tha jo wicket ke piche se match badal deta tha”, it means – there was a man who turned the match from behind the stumps.
Dhoni has 190 dismissals in 264 IPL matches, including 148 catches and 42 stumpings. The maximum number of dismissals Dhoni has done with his gloves in an inning is 4 (4 catches, 0 stumping). Furthermore, on the international level, Dhoni holds the record of fastest stumping ever in just 0.08 seconds.
- Dinesh Karthik (174 Dismissals in 257 matches)
The veteran cricketer, Dinesh Karthik has taken retirement from cricket, including IPL. However, he can be seen playing cricket in the South African T20 League SA20. His IPL career has seen many ups and downs but he was a consistent performer with his gloves. Karthik has 174 dismissals in 257 matches under his belt. His dismissals comprise of 137 catches and 37 stumpings. His best performance in an inning with gloves is 4 dismissals, all with catches.
- Wriddhiman Saha (113 Dismissals in 170 matches)
The right-handed wicketkeeper batter is one of the few players who has been playing since the inaugural season of the IPL. Wriddhiman Saha was nicknamed ‘Flying Saha’ when he took some spectacular catches while playing for India in Test matches. Even in the IPL he has taken spectacular catches and has done superb stumping. Under his name, Saha has 113 dismissals, including 87 catches and 26 stumpings. His best performance with the gloves was 4 dismissals and all of them were done by catch.
- Rishabh Pant (95 Dismissals in 111 matches)
The new star of Indian cricket has become an all-format player and solidified his spot in the team. Rishabh Pant made a name for himself in his debut IPL season with his aggressive batting style and unique wicketkeeping. Fans started calling him “Chota Dhoni” because his batting and keeping style resembles Dhoni. However, he still has to go a long way to be like the legendary MS Dhoni.

The left-handed wicketkeeper batter, Pant has 95 dismissals so far in the IPL. He took 72 catches and has done 23 stumping in 170 matches he had played. His best performance in an inning was 4 dismissals with 2 catches and 2 stumpings.
- Robin Uthappa (90 Dismissals in 205 matches)
The right-handed wicketkeeper batter has played for several franchises in the IPL and kept the wicket too. He has done wicketkeeping in 205 matches and successfully made 90 dismissals for his team. The point to be remembered while looking at Robin’s wicketkeeping stats is that he was not the first-choice wicketkeeper for the teams he had played for. While playing for CSK he didn’t keep the wicket as there was Dhoni.
Uthappa played IPL since the inaugural season and retired after the 2022 season. During his wicketkeeping career, he took 58 catches and done 32 stumpings. His best wicketkeeping performance in an inning was 4 dismissals with 2 catches and 2 stumping.

Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka has the most dismissals in an inning in the IPL with 5 dismissals. Sanga took 5 catches in an inning while wicketkeeping in the IPL. Heinrich Klaasen has most number of stumping in an IPL inning, that is 3.
