Men in Blue were favorites before the world cup started but after losing the first two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand they are standing on the verge of elimination and even if they win their three upcoming matches against Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia they need miracles from minnows to beat New Zealand which doesn’t seem right at the moment.
Let’s talk about three areas which India needs to strengthen in the upcoming clash against Afghanistan in detail.
- Indian batting so far in the marquee event is in disarray as the experience players including the likes of Kl Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli have not applied themselves really well when it mattered in two crucial games against Pakistan and New Zealand. They need to pull their shocks in the upcoming marquee event.
- India has lost two many top-order wickets in the powerplay which has added enormous pressure on middle-order batsmen where they go ahead with a defensive mindset but not with an aggressive approach which is the best style suited for the T20 format. Batsman needs to show much intent with the willow rather than going for big shots unnecessarily.
- Barring Bumrah none of the Indian bowlers have shown much intent with the ball and the rest of the bowler including the likes of Shami, Chakravarthy is clearly struggling. Bowling selections need to be more apt in the coming matches.
The Indian team is clearly looking out of form and captaincy tactics from Virat Kohli is questionable on most occasions and his inability to field right playing X1 on the field and not playing Ashwin is not making sense especially when Chakravarthy is not doing well in both matches. With MS Dhoni being the mentor and Ravi Shastri being the coach and Kohli and Rohit part of the leadership group might have confused decision making which is visible on the field.
