Rankireddy & Shetty Break Into BWF Top 10: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty break into the Top 10 of BWF Men’s Doubles ranking for the first time. This came on the back of the pair’s win in the final of the Thailand Open against the third-seeded Chinese pair of Li Jun Hui- Liu Yu Chen. The win helped them take a frog jump of 7 spots to make it to the 9th position of the latest BWF (Badminton World Federation) rankings for Men’s Doubles.
The country’s Badminton Body congratulated the duo and backed them to so even better in the forthcoming tournaments, and next year’s Olympics. The Indian pair became nation’s only double’s pair to win BWF Super 500 or over event, and can be marked as the beginning of history.
It was the biggest title of the duo’s career as they defeated the defending world champions Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen of China and clinched the Open Super 500 tournament on Sunday in Bangkok.
They won the finals 21-19-18-21-21-18 that went for 1 hour and 2 minutes at the Indoor stadium, Haumark, Bangkok. Now the duo will shift their focus to World Championship that will held from 19th– 25th August 2019 at St. Jacobshalle in Basel, Switzerland.
The duo had earlier created a buzz on Sunday afternoon which prompted even the likes of Virendra Sehwag to take to twitter to laud them.
