Sanjeev Rajput is an Arjun Awardee Indian shooter, who changed the face of Indian shooting forever by winning 4 consecutive medals ( 3 gold & 1 medal) at 2010 Commonwealth Championships (gold 50 m rifle 3 positions badge, gold in 50 m rifle 3 positions, gold in 50 m rifle 3 positions pairs, silver in 10 m air rifle).

He was born on 5th January 1981 to Krishan Lal, a street food vendor, but despite all odds, he overcame all the obstacles and attained success. The shooter completed his schooling from SD Public School Jagadhri, Haryana.

At the age of 18, he joined the Indian Navy as a sailor.

In 2016, a national level shooter filed a complaint against Sanjeev Rajput accusing him at Hinjewadi police station, the case is currently sub-judice. The allegation led to a suspension from SAI (Sports Authority of India) and eventually fired from his job.

But the controversy couldn’t hold him for long and he bounced back with a silver medal at the 50 meters rifle 3 positions event at Baku. In 2019, he has finally secured his birth at the Olympics Tokyo 2020 after an outstanding performance at the ISSF (International Shooting Sports Federation) World Cup.

Sanjeev Rajput Early Life
Indian shooter, Sanjeev Rajput was born on 5 January, 1981 to Kishan Lal. His father worked as a street food vendor. He completed his education from SD Public School Jagadhri, Haryana. At the age of 18, he was recruited in the Indian Navy as a sailor.

Sanjeev Rajput Professional Life
In the year 2004, he won three Golds and a silver medal at SAF Games, Islamabad. He won team gold in Commonwealth Shooting Championships, Melbourne in March 2005, in the 50m Rifle 3 position event.

He won the bronze medal in the Men’s 50m Rifle Prone at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He won a bronze medal in the 2006 Asian Games, Doha.
Sanjeev Rajput made his maiden Olympic berth after making a New National Record of 1170/1200 in ISSF World Cup Fort Benning, USA. He also bagged second place in Asian Shooting Championship, in Kuwait in December 2007 in a 50m rifle.

At the SAGB Shooting Championship in 2009, the Indian shooter bagged 4 gold and 2 silver followed by a team gold of Air rifle from the Asian Air Gun Championship in December 2009.

The year 2010 saw him claiming double gold in 50m Rifle 3 Position event in Commonwealth Shooting Championship plus a silver in 10m air rifle event. He bagged a silver medal in ISSF World Cup Sydney, 2010 in 10m Air Rifle, while he won a team silver in 10m Air Rifle in Asian Games, held in China.

The Indian shooter made headlines after winning a gold medal in World Cup, held in Changwon, Korea, and thereby becoming the third Indian to qualify for the London Olympics.

At the ISSF World Cup finals in Poland, Rajput finished at eighth position, whereas at the 34th National Games, he bagged five gold and a silver medal. Sanjeev finished at the second position in the 50m Rifle 3 positions event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

In 2016 he won his second ISSF world cup medal in 50 meters rifle 3 positions event at Baku, where he ended up with a silver medal.

At the Gold Coast CWG 2018, he won the Gold medal in the 50m three positions event. In the 2018 Asian Games, he won a silver medal in men’s 50 metres rifle 3 positions category.

Sanjeev Rajput found himself in a controversy when a fellow shooter made rape allegations against him. According to the victim, Rajput made a fake promise of marrying her and raped her. Rajput was later released on bail and also submitted the proof in the court.
