Vikash Thakur Early Life

Vikash Thakur’s father inspired him to pursue a career in the sports field. Vikas Thakur first started weightlifting when he was just 9 years old.

At the beginning of his career, Vikash Thakur trained under Coach Parvesh Chander Sharma and worked with the Ludhiana district weightlifting and bodybuilding club. 

He is currently being coached by Vijay Sharma and Sandeep Kumar at the National Institue of Sports, Patiala. 

 

Vikash Thakur Professional Life

After accomplishing state level competition, Vikash Thakur made his first presence in indian weightlifting when he broke the national record in men’s 85 kg in 2015. Indian weightlifter broke the record of Takinder Singh finally after 14 years. Vikash Thakur made a record with a snatch of 153 kg. Vikash also scored 186 kg in clean and jerk.

Vikash made his international debut on 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow, Scotland when the Indian weightlifter won the silver medal in his debut competition.

Vikash Thakur Commonwealth Games 2022

In his first and last edition of Commonwealth Games Indian weightlifter, Vikash Thakur clinched the silver and bronze medal in the men’s 85 kg weight category.

In the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022, Indian weightlifter Vikash Thakur confirmed his CWG 2022 berth by winning the Gold medal in the men’s 96 kg event at the Singapore Weightlifting International.

Vikash Thakur’s family played an important role in his growth in the sports field. Vikash Thakur’s father Brij Lal Thakur. is employed with the Indian Railways and is currently working as a Mail express guard. Vikas’s mother’s name is Asha Devi and she is a homemaker.

Vikash’s family moved to Ludhiana more than three decades back after his father was posted on the railway.

7 times national champion 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 ,2018, 2019 ,2020 India record holder.

He won silver in the men’s 85 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

He won a bronze in the 94 kg weight class at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on The Gold Coast.
