Rohit Sharma clears his fitness Test, set to join Indian Team in Australia

Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has been declared fit by National Cricket Academy(NCA)in Bengaluru and he is all set to join Indian Test squad in Australia. This news was confirmed by BCCI on December 12th 2020. However, once he reaches Australia he will have to complete his 14-day mandatory quarantine protocol. As Rohit suffered an hamstring injury during IPL but he surprised everyone when he played last few matches of IPL especially the final and played a brilliant knock of 68 runs in the final against Delhi Capitals to clinch the IPL title fifth time in his carrier as skipper.

But Sharma despite playing the IPL final didn’t went for Australia initially with rest of the team and decided to undergo a rehabilitation process at NCA Bengaluru. There was something wrong when Indian Skipper Kohli said in a post-match conference that there is lack of clarity, confusion over why Rohit didn’t travel with us and then an immediate statement was released from BCCI official stating that the opener went to see his father as his father was ill.

As Rohit is fit now and ready to play for Indian team will strengthen the batting lineup of visitors especially after Virat Kohli will return back to India after first test as he has taken Paternity leave for the birth of his first child.

“Rohit has been rehabilitating and training at NCA since 19th November following a high-grade left hamstring injury suffered during the Indian Premier League (IPL),” the BCCI said in a statement.

“The NCA medical team was satisfied with the physical fitness of Mr Sharma after assessing him on different metrics that tested his skills related to batting, fielding and running between the wickets. Mr Sharma’s physical fitness has been satisfactory, however, he will be required to continue work on his endurance.

“He has been given a detailed programme to follow for the duration of the two weeks he will be quarantined for. He will be reassessed by the Team India medical team post his quarantine to establish his fitness status and a call on his participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be taken accordingly.”

However, he also replied to Indian skipper statement on his unavailability to Australian tour where he didn’t took the latter’s name to PTI “I don’t know what was going on, to be honest, and what all were people talking about. But let me put this on record, I was constantly communicating with BCCI and Mumbai Indians”.

These statements from two Indian stalwarts means that there is something wrong in Indian dressing room at the moment but we hope that it’s all speculation because Kohli and Sharma are the two important pillars of Indian cricket and looking at three world cups ahead from 2021 to 2023 it’s important that these two remain in good headspace so that they can give their best for the country as out of these three World Cups two will be hosted by India.
