Rohan Bopanna kept Indian hopes alive after entering in the second round of US Open in men’s doubles category with his partner Denis Shapovalov. The Indian-Canadian pair outclassed the challenge imposed by American pair Escobedo and Rubin in straight sets by 6-2, 6-4 on Friday.

After earning the victory Bopanna took to Twitter and wrote: “Through to the 2nd round @denis_shapo #USOpen”.

They are all set to face German pair Kevin KraKrawietz and Andreas Miles in the second round on Saturday. Bopanna is an integral part of Indian men’s doubles lineup and has been the member of Indian Davis Cup team since 2002.

In 2010, he partnered with Aisam-Ul-Haq Quereshi and finished as runner up in doubles category at US Open. As Aisam hails from Pakistan the pair was nicknamed as IndoPak express.

After that, the pair went on to win four successive titles including Johannesburg Open. He has also represented India in mixed doubles category after forming a pair with Sania Mirza. He distinguished himself as top doubles player for India after wining the Hopman Cup in 2007.

The ongoing US Open will not witness several top-class players like Nadal, Federer and Murray due to rise of COVID-19 cases in America. It will be a huge pressure on US Open officials to complete the mega event safely and making sure all the safety and security procedures are followed by players, officials effectively and efficiently to a great extent.
