Noor Ahmad is a talented cricketer from Afghanistan who has made a name for himself with his exceptional left-arm spin bowling. Born on March 3, 2005, in Herat, Afghanistan, Noor Ahmad’s passion for cricket ignited at a very young age. He grew up watching his cricketing heroes and dreamed of representing his country internationally.
Early Life
Noor Ahmad’s journey in cricket began when he joined the Nangarhar Cricket Academy, where he honed his skills under the guidance of experienced coaches. His talent and dedication were soon noticed by the national selectors, and at the age of 16, he made his debut for the Afghanistan under-19 team.
Cricket Debut and Career
On April 29, 2019, he made his first first-class debut for Kabul Region in the 2019 Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament. On October 8, 2019, he played his first Twenty20 match for Mis Ainak Knights in the 2019 Shpageeza Cricket League.
He was included on Afghanistan’s roster for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in December 2019. In July 2020, he was signed to the St. Lucia Zouks team for the Caribbean Premier League. On October 14, 2020, he participated in his first List A match for the Mis Ainak Region in the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One-Day Tournament.
He received an offer from the Melbourne Renegades in December 2020 at the age of 15 to play in the Australian Big Bash League season in 2020–21. Noor was added to the Chennai Super Kings team in March 2021 as a net bowler for the 2021 Indian Premier League. Noor also played in the Pakistan Super League in June 2021 for the Karachi Kings.
Noor was chosen to play for Afghanistan in the series of One Day Internationals (ODI) matches against Pakistan in July 2021. He was nominated for Afghanistan’s squad for the West Indies-hosted 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in December 2021. Following the players’ draft for the Supplementary category of the 2022 Pakistan Super League, he was signed by Quetta Gladiators later that month. He made his team debut on February 12, 2022, against Islamabad United at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
He was purchased by the Gujarat Titans in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament in February 2022.
Ahmad was selected for both the Afghanistan One Day International (ODI) team and the Twenty20 International (T20I) squad in May 2022 for the tour against Zimbabwe. On June 14, 2022, he played for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe in his first T20I match.
The 30th of November 2022 saw Ahmad make his ODI debut against Sri Lanka.
