IPL 2023 : Mohammad Shami reveals Gujarati Food is helping him stay in shape and lead the Purple cap race!

Veteran Indian pacer Mohammad Shami is breathing fire in this IPL season and just like last year, the Right-arm Pacer is proving to be a match winner once again for the Gujarat Titans who are playing their 2nd IPL edition. Shami is currently the Purple Cap holder with 23 wickets and his only competition in terms of the best bowler this season is Shami’s own team mate Rashid Khan who also has the same wickets – 23.

And last night, the defending champions took on bottom placed Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium for match number 62. While SRH are already out of contention from reaching the play-offs, Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans became the first team to seal their spot in the play-offs thanks to a 34-run win in their final home game of the league stages.

During the post match presentation, Ravi Shashtri firstly complimented Shami’s newly found enigma and asked the bowler about his diet regime. In response, Shami said – ย “Gujarat mein hun, mera khaana nahi milega na. Lekin Gujarati food enjoy kar raha hunย (I am in Gujarat. I won’t get my food here. But, I am enjoying Gujarati food nonetheless.)”

After winning the toss, SRH opted to bowl first and their decision did not prove to be fruitful. Following Wriddhiman Saha’s departure for a 3-ball duck, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan took the charge and stood for a partnership of 142 runs.

While Sudarshan scored 47 off 36, Shubman Gill scored his maiden IPL Century as his 101 off 58 helped GT leave a target of 189. In the 2nd innings, GT’s bowling unit led by Mohammad Shami totally bamboozled the Sunrisers’ batting order.

Leading from the front, Shami went on to 4 wickets against SRH with Anmolpreet Singh, Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi and Heinrich Klaasen all fell prey to Shami’s ruthlessness with the new ball at the home of the reigning champions.

For a fact, the 32-year-old has been ripping opposition’s top-order as Shami has been crucial for GT when it comes to take early wickets during the power play. 15 out of his 23 wickets have come inside the power play overs and if he continues his red-hot form, there is no wonder why Gujarat Titans can successfully defend the IPL title.

Despite Shami’s figures of 4/21, the obvious choice for the man of the match award was Shubman Gill.
