LPL 2023: Franchise cricket’s rise has been colossal to watch but off late competition has increased too. There are season wise systematic cricketing leagues in every nation that plays the Gentleman’s game. But for a fact, the game isn’t Gentle enough these days.
During LPL 2023, Sri-Lanka’s top-tier T20 league, things are getting a bit heated. We are at the half-way stage of the tournament and there have been more than 3 offensive bookings already made by the Country’s cricket board.
In first of the several incidents, Sri-Lanka national team mates Kusal Mendis and Chamika Karunaratne were caught in the act. For some backdrop, Dambulla Aura took on Colombo Strikers with Mendis playing for the former and Chamika representing the latter side.
The Aura’s after batting first posted 193 as the target, thanks to a terrific battering from Kusal Mendis. He smacked 87 off 46 whereas Chamika Karunaratne gave away 55 runs in 1st innings before the fight. During the 2nd innings, Karunaratne and Mendis had a verbal altercation during Colombo’s crumbling chase.

The former got in between a throw towards Kusal Mendis, who keeps the Wicket for Dambulla Aura. Mendis did not like Chamika’s attempt and the two had to be separated later on. The Sri-Lankan Cricket Board in the wake of the argument, slapped 10% Mendis’ match fees and handed him a Demerit point.
Karunaratne faced an harsher treatment as he was stripped off 55% match fees including 2 demerit points.
