Messi indicated that he wishes to be at Barcelona after retirement
After an infamous exit from boyhood club FC Barcelona, which led to a 7th Balon Do’r as well as a World cup win, Lionel Messi could be on his way back to Spain once he sees out his contract with Paris Saint Germain. The Argentinian ace moved to the French outfit on a free transfer after Barca failed to register his contract.
His current deal with PSG expires later this summer and there have been a lot of rumors surrounding his contract extension with the Parisians but nothing is concrete yet. In a recent interview with Diario Ole, he spoke upon a lot of things about where his career will now head towards.
When he was asked about returning to Spain, Messi said he will definitely return but when he hangs the boot. The 35-year-old said that he would live to spend his after footballing life at Barcelona where he grew up to become the best of the bests.
“When I finish my career, I will return to live in Barcelona, it’s my home.”
The 7-time Ballon D’or Winner scored 669 goals and assisted 290 times for Barca. He has also won 10 La Liga titles, 4 UEFA Champions League, 7 Copa Del Rey, 3 Club world cups, 3 UEFA Super cups and 8 Spanish Super Cups. Since his move to PSG, he scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions in 2021/22.
This season, Messi has a G/A of 28 in 23 appearances in Ligue 1, Trophee Des Champions and UEFA Champions League.
