Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur 6-2 in the Women's Super League on Sunday 18 October 2026, in a match they hosted. Lauren James and Ellie Carpenter each scored twice. The result was Chelsea's fifth consecutive league win and it came in Sonia Bompastor's 50th game in charge of the club in the competition.
The match was level at half-time. Matilda Vinberg equalised for Tottenham in the 41st minute with a header. The visitors more than matched their hosts in the first half, so Chelsea did not have things their own way before the interval, and the contest remained open going into the second period.
Chelsea took control after the restart. The hosts scored three goals in the space of nine minutes in the second half, which turned a tight contest into a comfortable lead. The game was full of stunning goals, and James was rampant while Carpenter battled throughout the afternoon.
Tottenham added a second goal late on. S. Gaupset scored in the 87th minute, but it arrived long after Chelsea had established their advantage and only made the final scoreline 6-2. Vinberg's strike just before half-time and Gaupset's late effort were the two goals Tottenham managed against a side that finished the afternoon with six.
The win keeps Chelsea in touch at the top of the table. They are two points behind Manchester City, who kept a perfect record by beating Brighton in the same round of fixtures. Before kick-off, Chelsea were on four wins, one draw and no defeats, a total of 13 points, while Tottenham had three wins, a draw and one defeat, for 10 points.
Chelsea also have a good recent record against Spurs in the league. They recorded a 2-0 away win on 8 Feb 2026 and a 1-0 home win on 12 Oct 2025 in the Women's Super League. Sunday's victory was far more emphatic than either of those results, and it extended the run of league wins that Bompastor's side have now put together.
