Kohli’s birthday wish for Dhoni most retweeted in 2019

Indian skipper Virat Kohli and former Indian captain MS Dhoni are two of the most famous cricketers, who have managed to carve out their own niche in the hearts of the Indian cricket fans. It is, then, only natural that when the two get together, sparks are bound to fly. It, thus, comes as little surprise than Kohli’s birthday wish to the wicket-keeper on July 7th 2019 was the most retweeted tweet of the year 2019.

“Happy birthday mahi bhai @msdhoni. Very few people understand the meaning of trust and respect and I’m glad to have had the friendship I have with you for so many years. You’ve been a big brother to all of us and as I said before, you will always be my captain,” he had written.

Along with the tweet, the Delhi cricketer also attached a photo of himself with Dhoni during a match, where the duo was seen wearing a broad smile. Till the moment of writing, the tweet had garnered more than 45,900 tweets thus far.

The birthday post came just two days before India’ semi-final clash in the World Cup 2019, where they faced New Zealand. The Men in Blue were unable to get across the line and crashed out in a heartbreaking manner. To make matters worse, it was a run-out of Dhoni that changed the fortunes of the side, with his dismissal all but sealing the fate for India.

It left the nation in tears, with Yuzvendra Chahal also stating earlier that he went into deep shock after Dhoni had been dismissed. It was also Dhoni’s last game for Team India, and though he is yet to announce his retirement, the chances of him making a comeback to the ODI or the T20I squad look slim.

Kohli, meanwhile, has been leading the Indian team in the T20I series against West Indies and played a magnificent knock of 94 in the first game to help his side over the line. The visitors, though, drew level in the second game. The third T20I will be played tomorrow.
