Early Career

Joshua Brian Little was born and raised in Ireland, and unlike many other Irish players, he only followed the Irish cricket pathway. Joshua Brian Little did not go to England to learn the rules of the game because he already knew them from playing the game in Ireland, and he has no experience competing at the county level.

Through the Irish cricket system, Joshua Little advanced from the underage level to the spotlight. His development cricket coach in Dublin, Andrew Leonard, who is now a prominent broadcaster, helped him learn softball cricket for the first time when Joshua Little was 10 years old at St Andrews Primary School.

To hone his abilities and repertory, Leonard demanded that Joshua Little join his friend Sanil Gupta at the Pembroke Cricket Club. During his time at Pembroke Cricket Club, Joshua Little quickly advanced through the Under-11 program and participated in Under-15 age group matches alongside players like future Irish captain Andy Balbirnie.

At the Monkstown Hockey Club, Little also practiced the sport of field hockey. Joshua Little even played for the Irish national field hockey team at the age-group level, specifically for the Irish Under-16 squad. He began playing seriously when he was about 13 years old. It is also thought that Little’s first love was field hockey rather than cricket.

Joshua Little was initially persuaded to start playing cricket by a classmate from his early years. But given his early international exposure at the juvenile age of 16, when Joshua Little was a member of the Irish cricket squad and was utilized as a net bowler for Ireland’s bilateral home series against Sri Lanka in the year 2016, it seems likely that Joshua Little would have chosen cricket over hockey.

Domestic and T20 Career

Joshua Brian Little, an Irish cricketer, excelled at the 2016 U-19 World Cup and was quickly promoted to the senior Irish side. Graham Ford influenced Little’s decision to pursue a professional career in cricket, leading him to focus on his social life rather than his professional career.

Joshua Brian Little made his List A debut for Leinster Lightning in the Inter-Provincial Cup of the year 2018 and made his first-class debut for Leinster Lightning in the Inter-Provincial Championship of the year 2018.

In 2019, Joshua Brian Little was awarded an Emerging Player Contract by Cricket Ireland. Little played for the Dublin Chiefs in the Euro T20 Slam cricket tournament, Dambulla Giants in the 2021 Lanka Premier League, and Chennai Super Kings in the 2022 Indian Premier League.

Joshua Brian Little was called up to join Manchester Originals during the 2022 season of The Hundred, where he became the second highest-wicket taker. In the month of December of the year 2022, Gujarat Titans brought Little to the Indian Premier League auction, making Joshua Brian Little the first Irish player to receive an IPL contract.

Little was also selected by Multan Sultans in the PSL auction for the Pakistan Super League, but was ruled out due to injury.

International Career

Little, a 16-year-old bowler from Ireland, made his T20I debut against Hong Kong on September 5, 2016. Joshua Brian Little was named in Ireland’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and the 2019 One Day International (ODI) series against England.
