In an iconic moment for cricket enthusiasts around the world, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah, recently presented the legendary Sachin Tendulkar with the coveted ‘Golden Ticket’ ahead of the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The much-anticipated tournament is set to take place in India from October 5 to November 19.
ODI World Cup 2023 will be featuring ten teams across ten venues, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting both the opener and the final. A total of 48 matches will be played during the 46-day event.

The ‘Golden Ticket’ was awarded to Sachin Tendulkar as a part of BCCI’s “Golden Ticket for India Icons” program. Sachin Tendulkar’s remarkable cricketing career boasts numerous records and accolades. In the One-Day International (ODI) format, he holds the record for the most runs, amassing a staggering 18,426 runs in 463 matches. Additionally, he has the distinction of being the highest run-scorer in World Cup tournaments, accumulating 2,278 runs in 45 matches spread across six World Cups. Sachin’s exceptional average of 56.95 in World Cup matches is accompanied by six centuries and 15 fifties, with his highest score in the tournament being an impressive 152.
Tendulkar’s stellar performances in World Cup tournaments earned him two coveted Golden Bat awards. In the 1996 World Cup, he scored 523 runs, becoming the first Indian to receive the prestigious award. He repeated this feat in the 2003 World Cup by smashing 673 runs in 11 matches for India.
This ‘Golden Ticket’ presentation to Sachin Tendulkar follows a similar honour bestowed upon iconic Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan by Jay Shah.
