In practice prior to their pivotal game against the Delhi Capitals (DC), Jasprit Bumrah took everyone by surprise by taking up the bat. A video of Bumrah hitting some huge shots in the nets was posted on the official Mumbai Indians social media account. They also included a humorous description in Hindi for the video, which reads, “Aaj, batting tera Jassi bhai karega!”

This took many fans aback, given that Jasprit Bumrah is renowned for his outstanding bowling abilities. With 13 wickets in 8 matches, he is currently the IPL’s top wicket-taker. With an astounding bowling average of 15.69, he can capture a wicket on average after more than 15 runs.
MI’s Challenges and Bumrah’s Assists
Why, therefore, did Bumrah choose to take a swing at the bat? The Mumbai Indians’ current performance may hold the key to the solution. Their troubles this season have been mostly caused by their erratic batting. Bumrah may have been trying to convey to the team – whose dreams of making the playoffs are in jeopardy – that everyone, even bowlers like him, needed to pitch in.
Jasprit Bumrah may not be using the willow in the main match, but his actions still demonstrate a great sense of teamwork and positivity. The Mumbai Indians may need this spark to turn around their season and make a late run at the playoffs. It remains to be seen if Bumrah’s batting prowess will result in wins for his side.
