Afghanistan’s strong player joins Delhi Capitals as replacement

Delhi Capitals’ performance in IPL 2024 has been quite good in the last few matches. But after Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was out with injury, the team needed a good fast bowling all-rounder who could bat and bowl fast. Therefore, the Delhi team on Thursday announced the addition of Afghanistan’s fast bowling all-rounder Gulbadin Naib, who has played 82 ODIs and 62 T20s, as a replacement for Marsh. 

Delhi Capitals have included Gulbadin Naib in their team at a base price of Rs 50 lakh as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh. He will be seen playing IPL for the first time and will become the first Afghan player to play for this team.

This season has been full of ups and downs for Delhi Capitals. However, despite Marsh being out, the team has performed well and the arrival of Gulbadin will further strengthen them.

Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of IPL 2024 due to a hamstring injury

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of IPL 2024 due to a hamstring injury. He played 4 matches for Delhi Capitals before getting injured but his performance was nothing special.  Marsh had returned home on April 12 to consult the medical staff of Cricket Australia. After this, on 22 April, the team’s head coach Ricky Ponting revealed at an event in Delhi that Marsh would not return to India. 

Marsh scored 61 runs while batting in four innings in IPL 2024 and took one wicket while bowling 8 overs while spending runs at an economy rate of 12.87. This is the second consecutive season when he has been out of the IPL due to injury. In IPL 2023, he played only nine matches for Delhi Capitals. 

Delhi Capitals current situation in IPL 2024

In the current IPL season, Delhi Capitals is currently at sixth position in the points table with four wins in 9 matches. In its last match, Delhi had defeated Gujarat Titans in a thrilling manner by 4 runs and now its next match is against Mumbai Indians on 27th April.
