Shikhar Dhawan, current captain of Punjab Kings, is in outstanding form in the ongoing IPL season.
He scored unbeaten 86 runs from 56 balls against Rajasthan Royals, which Punjab Kings ultimately won by 5 runs.
He trails behind CSK Rituraj Gaikwad, in terms of leading run scorers of IPL 2023.
Shikhar Dhawan is currently not considered in contention for India’s squad and his absence has impacted Men in Blue widely as they have recently lost ODI series against Kangaroos.
He will be looking to replicate the same form in the ongoing season of IPL so that he gets a chance in Men in Blue squad especially this is a world cup year considering his past performances in ICC events, if selected he will do wonders in the upcoming World Cup 2023.
Former India spinner and someone who has shared the dressing room with him, legend Harbhajan singh expressed his disappointment for not picking Dhawan in the national squad despite him doing wonders with the willow in last few IPL seasons.
“Shikhar is leading the PBKS side. He has been performing regularly. Till a few months back he was leading the Indian side in many tours but suddenly we saw that after the role of Shikhar was over, he was sidelined as if he is not needed anymore. I felt bad on seeing this because the treatment for everyone should be the same. He is a big player and contributed so much too much to Indian cricket,” Harbhajan Singh said these words on his official Youtube channel.
He added that Dhawan is consistent and fit as Kohli so ignoring him is ideally not acceptable and when we look at his performances in ICC major Championship trophy he has been top performer for India.
“You can not treat him like this. He played a good knock of 86 in just 56 balls. I will not name anyone here. For instance, let’s take Rohit Sharm or Virat Kohli who are the big names. You gave them plenty of chances but on the other hand, there is no place for Shikhar Dhawan in the team now. He can be relied on. In the Champions Trophy, and other tournaments he has always contributed for the team. What does he need to do more? It’s not like others are doing much. So, why is Shikhar Dhawan not getting a chance? I think he should be taken in the Indian team. If one talks bout fitness, he is as fit as Virat Kohli. He is also scoring runs.” Harbhajan concluded.
