“It’s a fair team. It’s the right call…….” Former BCCI selector had an interesting take on Rahane’s return in Test Cricket

Ajinkya Rahane, an experienced batsman for India, made a comeback in international test cricket after an absence of more than 1.5 years.

Many people attribute his outstanding performance in the current season, which marked a quick return from him in Test Cricket, to the CSK management setup.

The return of Rahane to India’s Test squad and the team’s reliance on him ahead of upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia scheduled at the Oval from July 7–11, 2023, were fascinating points made by former BCCI selector MSK Prasad.

He spoke about the selection of Indian Test team and how his addition will help India in the upcoming marquee event.

“It’s a fair team, it’s the right call. Ajinkya with so much uncertainty in the middle-order, I think they (selectors) were absolutely right,” Prasad was quoted as saying by India Today.

Iyer’s absence from the grand finale was caused by an injury, and Rahane replaced him. Iyer had recently undergone surgery in the UK to address stress fractures in his lower back.

Rahane’s return is anticipated to strengthen India’s Test cricket squad by Prasad.

“I am very, very happy for him. He has always been a wonderful performer for India in the away series. And I think he fits the bill perfectly. Full credit to the selectors for bringing him back.

Rahane has a stellar track record in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia), thus India will benefit from his expertise.

He will begin Playing X1 as the favorite if he is selected for India’s Test team.

After Iyer’s injury, Team Management continued to use Surya Kumar Yadav, but the former couldn’t perform tactically in the game’s longest format, thus Rahane was added because of his expertise.

India will be aiming to capture the ICC Title after a 10-year absence as their most recent trophy was the Champions Trophy they won in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
