IPL 2025: KL Rahul returns to play in Lucknow, ahead of the DC vs LSG Clash

KL Rahul, a popular household name in today’s times has grown to become one of the most stable and solid batters of Indian cricket. Over the years, he has created a unique niche for himself and proved his mettle as a dependable player, often being hailed as a ‘selfless cricketer’, owing to his flexibility to play at any position or order in the line-up.

April 22, Tuesday will be a memorable evening for KL, as he will walk on a turf that’s quite familiar to him, but this time wearing a jersey in new colours. The star Indian wicket-keeper batsman, who is now a part of Delhi Capitals is all set to return to the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow to face his former team, Lucknow Super Giants in what promises to be a high-stake IPL 2025 clash.

In the last edition of IPL, KL Rahul was into his third season at Lucknow Super Giants, having been associated with them since the franchise was established in 2022. During one of the matches, things were all hunky dory and then one game just crumbled everything for him.

Live visuals of the LSG team owner Sanjiv Goenka criticizing captain KL were viral all over the social media, as his team was butchered by Sunrisers Hyderabad brutally.  There was no coming back from that episode, at least in KL’s mind.

His meeting with Goenka could have happened earlier, but he missed the previous clash between the two sides owing to birth of his child. Former players coming back to rub some salt on their old teams has been a theme this year, and KL Rahul has had a mindful chance with that already. His match-winning 93 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium became a talking point.

The former LSG captain, who is now a part of the Delhi Capitals, is set to play against the very franchise he led from the front as a skipper. This clash is not like another league encounter, but rather a homecoming characterized by intensity, character, and redemption. Today, KL will step on to the field not to captain, but to conquer and prove.

KL Rahul was the pulse of the LSG franchise ever since their entry, but just before the mega-auction for IPL 2025, LSG did something unexpected when they released their star player quite abruptly but silently expectedly.

LSG’s new captain Rishabh Pant has scored rather less in the matches played so far. But despite his low returns, they have won five of their last seven games, including four really tight ones. A win in Lucknow could shake up the points table — and for Rahul it’s a chance to make a statement at his old home.  The emotions will be rather pulsating, as KL Rahul will take the center stage at the very same ground, which he once called ‘home’.
